December 1983, finds the lodge building in better condition than it has been for many years, but
still in the need of much work if we wish to have a serviceable place for Masonic functions for the
years to come.
This report is in two parts; what has been accomplished this year, and recommendations for
future maintenance.
After the east wall brick had been tuck-pointed and the drainage system replaced in 1982, there
was a need to have sections of the interior wall and ceiling replastered which was done by a
professional plasterer. With the help of some Brothers and the loan of some scaffolding, the area
replastered was repainted.
Later in the year, the Eastern Star purchased floor tile for the kitchen and adjoining room and had
it installed. Some of the Brothers assisted by moving the equipment and furniture.
One of the Warden station tables began to fall apart. This was brought to the attention of the
trustees and the table was removed, repaired, and returned in time so as to not be missed for a
lodge meeting.
After another successful fund raising dinner in the fall, enough money was available to have the
south brick wall tuck-pointed, the 16 windows sealed and repainted, the emergency door painted,
and a garbage storage area built under the rear stairs. This work was done by Brother Fred
Shireman’s company.
Work is underway by the Eastern Star to refurnish and redecorate the ladies’ room downstairs.
Recommendations for future building maintenance are:
1. Resurface the asphalt roof and eventually replace it.
2. Repair the coping around the top of the walls.
3. Tuck-point the north and west brick exterior wall
Seal and repaint the remaining windows. It should be noted that a suggestion has been
made to remove many upper windows and seal that space to better prevent hear and
cold loss since the windows are not used.
4. Re-plaster sections of the interior walls, both upstairs and down.
In conclusion, we, the Trustees, could not have presented the above report of improvements fhad
it not been for the financial and physical help of many Brothers of Pisgah Lodge and the
assistance of the Eastern Star. Thank you. Respectfully, Carl Duley, Jerry Frakes, Ralph Best.

The trustees made a report on the 1986 budget as follows:
The opinion of the trustees is that the given budget is unsatisfactory. When you anticipate
spending most of what you take in, you allow for no error in judgement for projected revenues
and no provision for much needed maintenance and repairs of the lodge building.
Four expenses; utilities, insurance, taxes, and that portion of salaries that pays for keeping the
building clean and orderly, totals approximately $6,475. These should be funded in a just manner
by all the organizations and not mainly by Blue Lodge.
Assuming that Blue Lodge meets 40 times next year, the OES 22 times, the Chapter 13 times,
and Job’s Daughters 26 times, we have a total of 101 meetings in 1986 projected at a cost of
$64.11 per meeting.
Also, assuming that Job’s Daughters could not afford $64 each time they meet, we could see
splitting their meetings by adding 13 to each Blue Lodge and OES and make the following
calculations:
Blue Lodge share: 40 + 13 = 53 x $64.11 = 3,397.83
OES share: 22 + 13 = 35 x $64.11 = 2,243.85
Chapter share: 13 + 0 = 13 x $64.11 = 833.43
101 6,475.11
The present donations of $500 by the Star and $250 by the chapter are not fair shares.
We, the trustees, therefore suggest that the OES and the Chapter increase their donations by;
OES from $500 to $2,244, and Chapter from $250 to $834, making a total increase of $2,328, in
order to provide the necessary net balance in the budget to provide for a workable budget fair to
all.
Respectfully, signed: Ralph D. Best, Carl E. Duley, Alva G. Frakes

1. The front of the building exterior has been completed and the north side is soon to be
completed.
2. The county, according to Commissioner Fred Royse, is to soon pave the parking lot on the
north side of our building and, in the process, will be sure that water drainage is diverted away
from the building.
3. Brother Fred Shireman has officially donated the costs of the ceiling renovation in the men’
s waiting room to the lodge, and that he will probably donate the same in the OES waiting room.
4. That the trustees recommend putting a new flat roof on the lodge hall, replacing the
existing flat roof which is now 20 years old; that this would be the cheapest alternative for another
20 years.
5. That a member of our lodge contacted James Blair and donated the cost of having a
suspended ceiling installed in the entry hall and the dining room. An estimate was obtained from
Fred Shireman and reviewed with the donor who agreed to pay the full price to the lodge in the
amount of $6,850 for these improvements. A primary condition is that the donor has requested to
remain anonymous.
After lengthy discussion over the gift of the new ceiling, Brother James Emily suggested that
Brother James Blair contact the anonymous donor and thank him for his generous contribution.
MARCH 18, 1986
Trustee Ralph Best reported that the installation of the ceiling tiles in the downstairs hall and
meeting rooms should be completed by the weekend.

to the attention of he and Brother James Emily regarding the civil court versus two lodge
Brothers. The Worshipful Master has filed a report with the Grand Lodge and directed that it be
read in lodge in the presence of the two Brethren. He stated that these are not charges, but a
report filed with the Grand Lodge. The letter read as follows:
In our lodge, Pisgah 32, located at Corydon, Indiana, we have two brothers who were recently
charged and tried. I am enclosing copies of court transcripts of the trials, and I am requesting
your assistance and guidance in handling this matter.
The two brethren involved are __________________, the _________________ of this lodge,
and ______________, past master and present _________________ of Pisgah Lodge.
I would like to bring it to the attention of the Grand Lodge that both of these brothers have been
very active in numerous Masonic bodies. They have held various offices in these organizations
and are very reliable and helpful in all lodge functions.
It is with a sad heart, I refer to Regulation 43.060 Conviction for Criminal Offences, but as Master
of this lodge, I realize it is my duty and responsibility to submit this to your attention.
Fraternally yours, Charles D. McAfee, Worshipful Master, Pisgah Lodge 32, Corydon, Indiana,
47112.
In a letter from Grand Master J. C. Paxton dated June 2, 1986, he stated that the two cases are
remanded back to Pisgah Lodge for whatever action is deemed appropriate under the provisions
of the Penal Code, beginning with Chapter 42 of the Indiana Blue Book of Masonic Law, with
specific attention given to Reg. 43.090.

some of the members of the lodge, specifically concerning the recent blackballing of a candidate;
that a daughter of one mason had approached the applicant’s wife and fully discussed it. Brother
Frakes advised the lodge that this has to stop as it only makes the lodge look bad and could
open the lodge up for suit. The Worshipful Master stated that he was unaware of this happening
and if he found out who was doing it, he would see that it was stopped.

no longer in use will be bricked in while the scaffolding is up. The Trustees also reported that

A discussion was held about increasing dues in order to build additional monies for additional
needed repairs. The budget presently pays only immediate operating expenses and there are no
monies provided for a cumulative building fund. This discussion resulted with a recommendation
that the by-laws committee introduce an amendment at the next stated meeting to raise the
annual dues $10 from $26 to $36, making a member’s total dues $45. At the same time, a
newsletter should go out to all members with this information included. A tear off slip should be
provided for a general consensus of the membership’s opinion.
JULY 21, 1987
A good natured discussion was held on the needed cleaning and repairs of officers’ aprons.
Since dry cleaning had previously yellowed them, the Secretary was volunteered to take his apron
home, experiment in washing it, and report back to the lodge so each officer may (or may not) do
the same, depending on the results. The Secretary cheerfully agreed to conform with this
request and will take careful notes so he may report back to the lodge at the next stated meeting.
It was the opinion that the Secretary is the one who should perform this task since he is behind a
desk and, if ruined, his apron would be less noticeable by other members and visitors of the lodge.
AUGUST 4, 1987
The Secretary cheerfully conformed to the minutes of July 21, and made a report on his
experimenting with the washing of his apron. His exhaustive and extensive report covered the
proper procedures in washing, the type of detergent and bleaches to use, and the proper
techniques in ironing the apron while it is still damp. The proper procedures to insure a white,
clean, and ironed apron were apparently too complicated for the Worshipful Master as he
instructed all the officers to take their aprons home and let their wives perform the delicate tasks.
