the following report:

“The committee wishes at this time to recommend the establishing of a building fund.  The money
placed in this fund would be used only for repairs and permanent improvements to the building.
We believe that we should never lose sight of the necessity of making adequate provisions for
the upkeep of the building.  If proper provision is made now, in the years in which funds are
available, then it will never be necessary in later years when money may not be available and
repairs necessary to mortgage the building as has been done in the past.  Many of the older
members of the lodge gave liberally of their time and money to see through the construction and
payment of and for the building.  It is not fair to them to neglect now to make proper provision for
its permanent upkeep.

JUNE 20, 1967

The committee which the Worshipful Master had appointed to prepare a resolution relative to the
presenting of the white lambskin apron made the following resolution which was subsequently
adopted:

Pisgah Lodge 32 will cease the practice of giving the white leather apron to a Brother Master
Mason only after he has given the first lecture of the master mason degree in open lodge and will
adopt the following procedure: Since the full apron lecture must be given to the entered
apprentice candidate by directive of the Gand Lodge of Indiana, and since the entered
apprentice is informed in this lecture that the white leather apron is his to wear throughout an
honorable life and at his death to be placed upon the coffin that contains his earthly remains, it
must of right be his.

He (the candidate) therefore shall wear it throughout the ceremonies of the entered apprentice
degree and of each degree thereafter.

He (the candidate) shall be informed at the end of the ceremonies of the entered apprentice
degree that his white leather apron shall remain in the temple in the custody of the Secretary until
such time as the complete record of his initiation, passing, and raising can be inscribed thereon,
and that no record will be inscribed on the apron for any degree until proficiency for all the
degrees has been attained by him.

The necessity for proficiency in the entered apprentice and fellow craft degrees and the penalty
for not becoming proficient in the master mason degree will be explained at the proper time.

AUGUST 27, 1967

The lodge met at Cedar Hill Cemetery to pay tributes of respect to two fallen brothers who had
served as Grand Masters of Masons in the Grand Lodge of Indiana:

Judge William Ridley: He was the Grand Master in 1910 and 1911.  He was born in Harrison
County, Indiana, on November 10, 1850.  From 1872 to 1880, he was deputy clerk in Harrison
County, then from 1881 to 1885, clerk of the circuit court.  He was admitted to the bar and
practiced law for many years.  From 1909 to 1921, he served as Judge of the Third Judicial
Circuit, which included Harrison, Crawford, and Perry Counties.  He was president of the First
National Bank in Corydon, and from 1921 to 1925, was President of the Corydon State Bank.
Judge Ridley was a long time member of the Methodist Church.

Past Grand Master Ridley became a mason in 1875 in Pisgah Lodge 32 where he served as
Worshipful Master in 1883-85, 1900-03, and 1904-06.  Other masonic affiliations included his
membership with the York Rite bodies at New Albany, and with the Indianapolis Valley of Ancient
Accepted Scottish Rite.

Judge Ridley died March 29, 1925, at Corydon and was buried with masonic honors in Cedar Hill
Cemetery.

Judge Thomas J. Wilson: He was the 86th Grand Master of Masons in Indiana, was a great-
grandson of Captain Spier Spencer who organized the “Yellow Jackets” at Corydon in 1811, and
commanded this company at the Battle of Tippecanoe where he lost his life.

Judge Wilson was born September 6, 1863, at Corydon.  After graduating from highschool there,
he taught school for a time.  Then, in 1892, he was graduated from Georgetown University, was
admitted to the bar, and practiced law in Corydon.

From 1921 to 1935, he was judge of the Harrison Circuit Court.  He served as Corydon
postmaster, as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Indiana State School for the Deaf, and
was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Judge Wilson’s masonic activities began in 1895 when he was raised in Pisgah Lodge 32.  He
was Worshipful Master in 1927, and his term as Grand Master of Masons in Indiana was in 1936-
37.  He was a charter member of Corydon Chapter RAM and New Albany Commandary No. 5,
KT.  His Scottish Rite affiliation was with the Valley of Evansville.

His death occurred at Louisville, Kentucky, November 13, 1937, and he was buried with masonic
honors in Cedar Hill Cemetery at Corydon .after having lain in state in the Masonic temple.

NOVEMBER 21, 1967

A communication was received from Grand Master John L. Bloxome informing the lodge that a
book written by our Grand Secretary, Brother Dwight L. Smith, depicting 150 years of  masonry in
Indiana will be published and ready for distribution on January 12, 1967, the actual 150th
anniversary of the Grand Lodge of Indiana.  The Secretary was directed to order one of the
books, “Goodly Heritage” for Pisgah’s library.

The Grand Master’s communication also called attention to the masonic play “Let There be Light”
to be given at the Corydon Central High School on December 2, 1967, and also to the masonic
play, “And There Was Light” to be given at Madison, Indiana on January 12, 1968.

The following was written in commemoration of the play “Let There Be Light” detailing the first
150 years of the Grand Lodge of Indiana:

“In the spring of 1817, the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Kentucky granted sundry brethren in
the town of Corydon , Harrison County, Indiana, a dispensation to form a lodge of Free and
Accepted Masons.  Agreeable to such order and dispensation, Brother John Miller, Worshipful
Master of Blazing Star Lodge No. 16, was appointed to install the officers of the newly constituted
lodge.  Acting on such instructions, Brother Miller installed the officers of the new lodge at a
meeting held on May 26, 1817, thus was Pisgah Lodge established.

At the time of the establishment of Pisgah Lodge, Corydon was the capital of Indiana and many
men prominently connected with the early history of Indiana were located here.  Hence it was only
natural that the first action to be taken toward the establishment of the Most Worshipful Grand
Lodge of Indiana should originate in Corydon.

The lodge began work from its first inception and the records of the early meeting reveal many
names of prominence, of people locally as well as other jurisdiction.

Material being so plentiful and the lodge working, there were soon enough members to fill the
offices and the brethren were put to work at once.  The first full list of officers for Pisgah Lodge
consisted of Brothers David Floyd WM, Mile R. Davis SW, David S. Collins JW, John Tipton SD,
George Hite JD, Robert A. New Secretary, Reuben Nelson Treasurer, and Jordan Vigus Tyler.
During the period of 11 months under dispensation, twelve men were initiated, four passed, and
four raised.

On September 9, 1817, after working for three months under dispensation, a charter was granted
to Pisgah Lodge No. 45.  Another notable event at this meeting was that the petition of Jonathan
Jennings was presented, the rules suspended, and he was elected.  On the following night he
was initiated, passed October 1, and raised October 3, 1817.

The first meeting to talk over the plans for forming a Grand Lodge of Indiana was
December 1,1817.  Just two days later, December 3, 1817, the following delegates assembled
and laid the foundation for the establishment of the Grand Lodge of Indiana.  The nine lodges
were thus represented;

Vincennes - General W. Johnson, Charlestown - Joseph Bartholemew and John Miller,
Lawrenceburg - James Dill, Vevay - Hezikiah B. Hull, Rising Sun - Able C. Peper, Madison - Henry
P. Thornton, Brookville - Stephen C. Foster, Salem - Christopher Harrison, Corydon - Davis
Floyd.”

DECEMBER 2, 1967

The Grand Lodge officers and many prominent masons and visitors met at Corydon to celebrate
the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Grand Lodge of Indiana, and to pay tribute to the
work of those brethren.  Among some of the prominent masons assembled were: John L.
Bloxome, Grand Master; John H. Jefferson, Past Grand Master and Grand Treasurer; Dwight L.
Smith, Past Grand Master and Grand Secretary; John H. Jena, Jr., Grand Deacon; Charles R.
Brown, Senior Grand Deacon; Howard O. Hunter, Grand Lecturer; Allen R. Bennett, Assistant
Grand Lecturer; Elmer C. Johnson, Grand Chaplain; Wayne Guthrie, Nashville No. 135 Grand
Steward and Tyler; Sidney Cofield, Union No. 2; and many others.

Supper was served at the Central Grade School building after which the brethren and visitors
assembled in the auditorium of the school where they had the pleasure of witnessing the play
“Let There Be Light”, written by our Grand Secretary, Dwight L. Smith.  It was very interesting and
instructive, and called to mind events of the past leading up to the formation of the Grand Lodge
of Indiana.  The characters for the play were from the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and the
music was furnished by members of the Scottish Rite Valley of Evansville.

Pisgah Lodge is deeply grateful to those brethren and for all our members who labored to make
the event one that will be long remembered by the brethren of Pisgah Lodge 32, F&AM.

NOTE: The Grand Lodge was opened in the Old Capitol Building.

The by-laws were amended to fix the dues at $7 per year, due and payable on or before January
